The Goleta Planning Commission will hold a public hearing, 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, to consider recommending that the City Council amend a local ordinance in order to comply with new state standards on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADU).
The meeting will be held in person in City Council Chambers, 130 Cremona Drive, and via Zoom. The meeting can also be viewed on Goleta TV Channel 19 and/or online at www.cityofgoleta.org/meetings-agendas.
The amendment to Title 17 (Zoning) of the Goleta Municipal Code (GMC) is under consideration due to state legislation — Assembly Bill 2533 and Senate Bill 1211 — that was passed this year.
The proposed Goleta ordinance includes a new set of citywide ADU and JADU standards that will fully comply with the state’s changes.
Topics for changes to the city’s ADU and JADU regulations include:
• Unpermitted ADU and JADU
• Replacement Parking Requirements
• Definition of Livable Space
• Multi-Family ADUs – Number of Detached ADUs
Additional revisions include minor alignments with state ADU law; updated state ADU law citations; updated and added specific cross-references; clarifying clauses and subsection titles; and added references to applicability to JADUs, where appropriate.
View the notice here. The full agenda, with staff reports and documents, will be posted at least 72 hours before the hearing on the city’s website.
