The Goleta Thunder 12U Softball squad earned their first title of the summer all-star season over the weekend, earning the Old Town Shootout championship in Temecula.
The Thunder, who represent the Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association, went a perfect 5-0 and won the title matchup against Navajo 12U Gold in dramatic fashion.
After Goleta trailed 11-5 heading into the final inning, the Thunder ripped off seven runs, including a walk-off double to clinch the championship win.
“The coaching staff is extremely proud of the hard work that the girls have put in over the summer to improve, as well as their commitment and dedication to the team,” Goleta head coach Eric Buben said.
“They never quit when they easily could have, and we are very proud of the grit they showed this weekend.”
The Goleta Thunder 12U All Stars include Evie Bechler, Olivia Carleton, Reagan Cram, Cecily Benes, Karina Huie, Arina Baltadano, Bailey Conway, Sophia Munoz, Cami Weiss, Kylie Buben, Lucy Hendrick and Jasmine Rollman.
The team is coached by Julie Weiss, Chris Huie, Devany Bechler, Dan Carleton and Eric Buben.
