Rio Lopes scored on Walker Torres’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning for the winning run as the Goleta Valley South Little League 10-under All Stars beat Santa Maria Westside Little League, 1-0, for the Section 1 Tournament championship on Tuesday in Oxnard.
Joseph Demmin and Alex Buckwalter combined on a three-hitter. Demmin gave up three hits and struck out seven in 4.2 innings. Buckwalter fanned two and didn’t allow a hit in the last 1.1 innings to earn the pitching win.
The GVSLL 10u All Stars advance to the Southern California State Championship in Eastvale. The double-elimination tournament starts Saturday at 11:30 at the Harada Heritage Park Sports Complex.
The Goleta Valley South 10U All Star team is made up of Walker Torres, Aiden Herrera, Joseph Demmin, Brooks Caldwell, Jackson Murdock, Robert Denny, Alex Buckwalter, Eli Swartz, Rio Lopes, Brandon Munoz, Baron Smith, Kellan Johnson. The team is managed by Adam Herrera, with Coaches Jesse Landeros and Ray Torres.
