Community members are invited to a yard sale, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 18-19 at 26 Amador Ave., Goleta, to help raise funds to keep kids from a slum in Nairobi, Kenya, in school.
Hosted by Pathway for Livelihoods Initiatives Kenya (PLIKEN), the sale will turn donated household/clothing items into support for school fees, uniforms, and basic needs so no child has to miss school because of financial hardship, organizers said.
Families, businesses, and community members can shop, donate items for the yard sale, or give directly to help students stay in school.
Items available for purchase include shoes, clothes, home goods, baskets, furniture, Ruggable rugs, toys, comforters and curtains, kids/baby items, and appliances. All items have been donated by neighbors in the Santa Barbara area.
All proceeds will benefit the PLIKEN Education Sponsorship Program, which aims to keep 30 children from the Shauri-Moyo slum in Kenya in school.
Funds raised will provide for tuition fees, educational materials, and support for PLIKEN’s Saturday Program, as well for the kids.
“Just $2 a day keeps a child in school, gives them access to the Saturday Program, and helps change their life,” organizers said.
PLIKEN is still accepting donations in new or gently used condition. To donate to the sale, call or text Lauren, 985-789-1784.
