The Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County is proud to announce the Montecito Water District has been certified as one of its latest Innovator Green Businesses. Innovator is the highest level of certification that the California Green Business Network offers to businesses that have met the highest verifiable standards of sustainability, go above and beyond to combat climate change, and work toward social equity by providing additional employee benefits and community resources.

This Green Business certification reaffirms that when it comes to environmentally sensitive practices, Montecito Water District is committed to “walking the walk.” With the achievement of Innovator status, the District confirms its role as a community leader by implementing initiatives like the water use efficiency plan, rebate programs, and ongoing public education. They even have a 5-year strategic plan that tackles the following goals: water supply reliability, infrastructure dependability, operational excellence, and water policy inclusion. The District also plays a profound role in benefitting the environment through their ability to influence wiser water use within its own operations, with partner agencies, their employees, and with every customer served.

Through the certification process, the District was able to purchase a water bottle filling station using the rebate money that the California Green Business Network offers, which cut down their use of single use plastics.

“Our team is very enthusiastic about meeting Green Business Standards and continuously improving our operations to be more environmentally sensitive,” said Public Information Officer Laura Camp. “The certification process has been an informative and rewarding process as described by other network members, and we’re realizing better practices and cost savings as a result.”

The Santa Barbara County Green Business Program is actively recruiting businesses to get certified. It offers free technical assistance to help throughout the process, and provides incentives such as rebates, community recognition, and free advertising to businesses who get fully certified.  If you are interested in getting your business certified, please contact Kori Nielsen at knielsen@environmentalin.com.
