The Guadalupe Greens Festival has been canceled, despite receiving city council approval earlier this month.

Intended to celebrate Guadalupe’s cultural heritage, the event scheduled for Sept. 19 at Jack O’Connell Park would have included musical performances and other activities. 

The festival was organized and funded by cannabis company SLO Cal Roots and production company Good Vibez Presents.

They initially proposed in May a two-day festival with a prevalent cannabis component. Following pushback from the city, organizers reworked the event by ridding it of cannabis and scaling it down to one day.

According to SLO Cal Roots CEO Austen Connella, during the reworking process, Good Vibez Presents and popular reggae band Rebelution already had another venue locked in for that date. (Rebelution is set to perform a concert at Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo on Sept. 19.)

“It just ended up being too far into the process to switch it back to Guadalupe,” Connella said.

Connella said that they hope to host the festival next year with the same production company. 

“The city, the staff, and the community really showed up and got us to an approval finally. And you know that wasn’t easy, but it really just came down to timing,” Conella said.

An inaugural Greens Festival for 2026 would have coincided with Mexican Independence Day, typically celebrated in Guadalupe with a parade and other activities in mid-September. The long-time organizers, Comite Civico, reportedly planned to skip 2026, according to a Guadalupe councilmember.
