Gusty winds are expected in the Santa Barbara area Friday night, with a wind advisory in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service said 20-30 mph winds are likely in Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito and Carpinteria areas, with gusts up to 50 mph.

“Gusty west to northwest winds will continue bring hazardous boating conditions (large and steep waves) and driving conditions (cross-winds and road debris) into Saturday. Boaters stay in safe harbor. Drivers use extra caution. Similar winds are likely to return on Tuesday,” the agency said.

North County areas have a wind advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, with gusts up to 35 mph expected.

After a mostly sunny weekend, the region has a chance of light rain starting Sunday night, the NWS said.

As of Friday afternoon, the forecast shows several hours of light rain with minor impacts.

Good Samaritan is activating warming centers for unhoused individuals on Sunday night in Santa Maria, Lompoc and Santa Barbara, because of the rain in the forecast.
