The Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association 12U Storm team came out on top in the OYSA Swing Into Summer Tournament over the weekend in Orcutt.

The Storm captured their first tournament title of the All-Star season with a 9-4 victory over the Santa Maria Regulators in the championship game.

Goleta went 5-0 over the weekend, outscoring its opponents 66-24 along the way. However, it wasn’t smooth sailing the entire way.

In the third game on Saturday, the Storm were trailing 10-2 in the second inning. However, Goleta rallied from behind and scored nine runs to take the lead and eventually pulled out the win.

“I simply reminded these young ladies that they are strong, capable, and talented. I told them to flush the mistakes, lock in and play Storm Softball,” GVGSA Storm coach April Gallup said of the come-from-behind win.

It was an all-around effort for the Storm throughout the weekend with strong production at the plate, in the circle and on defense.

“I’m so proud of these girls. This team is going to keep winning games as long as they continue to believe in their ability. They proved that to themselves this weekend,” Gallup said.

The 12U Storm is comprised of Charlie Andre, Margot Bruneel, Eva Fonteno, Lizzie Gallup, Lily Gray, Clara Jones, Makaela Muhr, Lillian Onishi, Talia Pellegrini, Harper Read and Gianna Torrijos.

The team is led by Head Coach Adam Gray, and assisted by Benji Bruneel and April Gallup.
