The Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association 8U Thunder All-Stars defended their home field and captured the Lindsay Rose Memorial Tournament title this weekend in Goleta.

The 8U Thunder went 4-0 in the tournament, capped off by a 2-1 win over Santa Maria in the championship game.

In the title game victory, the Thunder pitching staff struck out 11 batters in four innings while allowing just one hit.

“The coaching staff is very proud of the hard work and commitment that these young ladies have to their team,” Thunder assistant coach Cyrus Morici said. “Every player continues to develop and grow with each practice and game.

“They approach every game with a goal to win one inning at a time while having fun and supporting each other.”

The Thunder will now compete in the Cal State games in San Diego this week.

Members of the team include Alexa Goodson, Gracie Meza, Hayden Ward, Kalea Jones, Leilani “Rocket” Lugo, London Garcia, Natalie Morici, Neela Arias-Ervin, Nora Smith, Olivia Sandoval, Quinn Rifkin and Reagan Ward.

The team’s coaches include Sam Rifkin (Manager), Ashley Goodson, Taylor Ward, Manny Garcia, Rick Lugo, Caroline Wang and Cyrus Morici.
