Goleta Valley South Little League took down Dos Pueblos Little League 9-3 in the Juniors District 63 Tournament on Sunday.
With the win, GVSLL advanced to the District 63 Championship game.
In the first inning, Cruz Lorca gave GVSLL the early lead with a two-RBI double, a lead that they would not let go of for the remainder of the game.
GVSLL kept it rolling in the second when Titus Fernandez led off with a double off the wall and the offense kept up the momentum with two more runs to extend the advantage to 4-0.
“We all thought that ball left the yard,” GVSLL manager Rob Brennan said of Fernandez’s hit. “Titus absolutely crushed that pitch to get the inning started.”
From there, GVSLL cruised to the win behind solid pitching and plenty of insurance runs.
On the mound, Kevan Vatan, Owen Carleton and Lorca combined to help propel the team to a win.
Offensively, Jake Brennan, Josh Lopez and Wyatt Mitchell tallied two runs scored apiece while Lorca finished the day with a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Meanwhile, Gavin Miller made his presence felt at the plate on Sunday, tallying a sacrifice bunt, an RBI groundout and an infield single.
“[Miller] did all the small things offensively that a manager loves today,” Rob Brennan said. “Those are things we work on in every practice and so happy for Gavin today as well as the rest of the team for a great effort.”
GVSLL will play in the District 63 Championship game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. while DPLL play on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be at GVSLL.
The members of GVSLL include Jake Brennan, Diego Alvarez, Cruz Lorca, William Wrenn, Chris Youngdahl, Gunner Martinez, Owen Carleton, Kevan Vatan, Titus Fernandez, Josh Lopez, Wyatt Mitchell, Gavin Miller and Kieran Ramaker.
