The Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art presents Haptic Knowing, a new exhibit showcasing five artists whose work explores touch as a way of thinking, learning, and understanding the world.

Featuring the work of Andrea Bersaglieri, Lea Feinstein, Janet Neuwalder, Carol Shaw-Sutton, and Eliot Spaulding, the exhibit runs from Sept. 3-Nov. 7 at the museum, 955 La Paz Road, Montecito.

Through years of sustained experimentation and direct engagement with materials, each artist has developed a distinctive visual language shaped by the reciprocal exchange between hand, material and process, said Chris Rupp, interim museum director.

“In an era increasingly mediated by screens, this exhibition invites viewers to recognize the intelligence of touch and imagine the gestures, decisions and accumulated knowledge embodied in each work,” Rupp said.

The museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays; closed Sundays and college holidays.
