The Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee will host U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier for its 2022 Annual Presidents’ Circle Event, March 4. Speier, who represents California’s 14th Congressional District, is an advocate for women’s equality, LGBTQ rights, and equity for the disenfranchised.

Speier is dedicated to eliminating government corruption, while working to strengthen America’s national and economic security. She was named to Newsweek’s list of 150 Fearless Women in the world, and cited as one of Politico’s 50 most influential people in American politics for bringing the #Me Too reckoning to Congress.

Her legislation, the ME TOO Congress Act, became the basis of the bipartisan Congressional Accountability Act Reform Act that was signed into law in December 2018.

Speier, who has represented the 14th District since 2008, is a member on the Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is co-chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Congressional Armenian Caucus, Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, and Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Before being elected to Congress, Speier served two terms on the San Mateo Board of Supervisors, four terms in the California State Assembly, and two terms in the California State Senate.
