Lompoc, Buellton and the Gaviota Coast were under a flash flood warning Saturday morning as heavy rain drenched the region.

The National Weather Service issued the warning, effective through noon Saturday, and said road flooding and Highway 101 flooding was likely.

California Highway Patrol reported flooding on Highway 101 near Tajiguas Landfill and officials closed the entrance road to Gaviota State Park.

At 9:40 a.m., southbound Highway 101 was being shut down at Mariposa Reina.

In the Santa Maria Valley, Rosemary Road was closed between Betteravia and Stowell roads, and Highway 1 was shut down between Black and Solomon roads.

“Stay away from small creeks and canyons as heavy flows will soon develop,” the warning said.

The Gaviota Coast received 1.06 inches of rain in half an hour as of 9:20 a.m., and about 1.47 inches in the previous hour.

Forecasters had said heavy rain was possible with the weekend storm, which is expected to add several inches of rain to the already-drenched region.

A flood advisory is in effect for Santa Barbara County through 2 p.m.
