A 5-year-old dog rescued from Mexico went missing in the Santa Barbara area Sunday night and owners say he was found Monday.

Carlitos, whose face is mostly covered by black fur and body has various shades of brown, escaped from a foster family’s home at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The dog fled from a home near the Santa Barbara Mission, but someone reported seeing him in the western Montecito foothills.

Carlitos is a mixed-breed dog weighing about 20 pounds. He has a microchip, but was not wearing a collar at the time he became lost.

Owners offered a $500 reward for the return of Carlitos.

Since the dog is skittish, anyone who sees Carlitos should not approach or chase him.

Instead, anyone who spots Carlitos should call 505.930.6224 with details about the location and time.
