The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with the Santa Maria Pickleball Club and the People for Leisure and Youth, Inc. (PLAY), are collaborating to build six new regulation pickleball courts at the Hagerman Sports Complex, 3300 Skyway Drive.

The city of Santa Maria is funding the concrete slab and the painting of the courts. An additional $30,000 is needed to fund the interior and exterior fencing and permanent nets for the courts.

The Santa Maria Pickleball Club is donating $5,000 to the project and is asking community members to consider making a tax-deductible donation to help make the project a reality. Donations of $250 or more will be recognized on a contributions board to be located near the courts.

Visit www.santamariaatplay.org to make an online donation or donate by a check made payable to PLAY, Inc. and mail to 615 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria, CA 93454.

Pickleball is an inclusive sport for all ages that combines the structure of tennis with similar scoring to table-tennis. It is easy to learn, and can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. The game has developed a reputation in Santa Maria for its friendly and social nature.
