More cool weather and chances of rain are in store for the last week of 2023 in Santa Barbara County, as well as high tides and high surf advisories for many of the county’s beaches.
The National Weather Service issued several warnings and advisories Tuesday, including high surf advisories along the county’s Central Coast beaches and the South Coast, bringing coastal flood advisories.
High surf advisories are in effect for the South Coast, as well as the Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, through 10 p.m. Saturday, and a high surf warning is in effect for the central coast beaches through 10 p.m. Saturday.
National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Wofford told Noozhawk that west-facing beaches can expect to see waves up to 15 to 20 feet.
Wofford added that, while these are expected for more of the northern areas of the county, south-facing beaches, such as those along the South Coast, will also see some high surf.
There will also be high tides during the morning hours as well, between 8 and 10 a.m., when the hazard for coastal flooding will be the greatest.
There is a chance for some very light rain in Santa Maria and Vandenberg late Wednesday, but that is expected to be under a tenth of an inch.
More substantial rain is anticipated throughout the county Friday into early Saturday, bringing about a half inch of rain.
“[This will be] a little heavier, but still nothing too heavy,” Wofford said.
High temperatures throughout the county this week should be in the 60s, with overnight lows in the 40s.
