The Santa Barbara South Coast was hit with heavy rainfall causing highway closures and widespread flooding Saturday.

Highway 101 was closed in both directions Saturday between Winchester Canyon Road west of Goleta to Highway 1 near Gaviota due to debris flows and flooding on the roadway, Caltrans District 5 officials said.

Traffic reopened in both directions as of Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Santa Barbara South Coast Saturday. Heavy rainfall was recorded, with more than 1 inch per hour in some places, and it caused widespread flooding and road closures.

Highway 1 near Orcutt in North County was closed in both directions for flooding between Solomon and Black roads, the California Highway Patrol said.
