One person received critical injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday on Highway 101 north of Buellton.

At approximately 11:12 a.m., emergency personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department along with California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response were dispatched to an incident on southbound Highway 101 at Jonata Park Road, County Fire spokesperson Karen Cruz-Orduña said.

Firefighters found a two-vehicle collision involving three occupants at the intersection.

Extrication was required to free at least one patient from a vehicle, Cruz-Orduña added.

Two people from one car were transported to a local hospital. One of the patients received major injuries while the other had minor injuries, Cruz-Orduña said.

A County Air Support Unit helicopter landed in a field nearby to help transport the critically injured patient.

The driver of one of the vehicles declined medical treatment, she added.

CHP officers from the Buellton area were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
