Northbound Highway 101 traffic in Santa Barbara was brought to a stand-still Wednesday when a large eucalyptus tree toppled in the wind, blocking all the freeway lanes.
The incident occurred at about 9:15 a.m. between Las Positas and La Cumbre roads, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The blockage caused a major back-up of northbound traffic, and led to some drivers backing up to get off the freeway, the CHP said.
Some branches were reported coming down on vehicles.
Santa Barbara City firefighters and Caltrans personnel responded, and were cutting up the tree to get Highway 101 reopened.

No injuries were reported.
The freeway lanes were reported reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
A Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday, calling for west winds of 15-30 mph, with gusts to 45 mph.
The blustery conditions were causing trees and limbs to come down, and utility lines to fall, throughout the area on Wednesday.
A large tree fell over on the 200 block of West Constance Avenue in Santa Barbara, bringing down utility lines and striking a house. No injuries were reported.
