Two people were injured when a vehicle slammed into the rear end of a tractor-trailer early Friday morning on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Santa Maria firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers and American Medical Response personnel were dispatched to the scene on Highway 101 near the northbound Donovan Road offramp, CHP Officer Maria Barriga said.

The Nissan Infiniti’s driver and a passenger were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with at least one person having major injuries.

The big rig driver wasn’t injured, according to the CHP.

The truck was carrying cooking oil which did not spill in the collision, according to fire Battalion Chief Evan Scott.

Additional details about the crash were not immediately available.

CHP officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
