Highway 154 was temporarily closed Tuesday afternoon after a three-vehicle crash that injured two people and sparked a vegetation fire, according to emergency officials.

The California Highway Patrol reported a vehicle collision and vehicle fire on the highway near Paradise Road at 11:40 a.m.

Highway 154 was closed in both directions for four hours before reopening as of 3:42 p.m. according to the CHP.

Emergency medical and fire crews responded to the scene to help people injured in the crash and extinguish the fire, which spread to nearby brush.

Two people had moderate-major injuries in the vehicle crash and were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by American Medical Response ambulance, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

A vehicle caught fire after the crash and the flames spread to the nearby hillside, causing a half-acre vegetation fire, County Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

The spread of the fire was stopped at 12:35 p.m., after efforts by firefighters using hose lines, hand tools and water drops from county Copter 964, he said.

Los Padres National Forest fire crews also responded to the scene.

Caltrans District 5 officials closed Highway 154 at Highway 192 on the Santa Barbara side and Highway 246 on the Santa Ynez Valley side during the afternoon closure.
