Emergency personnel responded late Monday night to a collision involving two semi-trucks on Highway 166 east of Santa Maria, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Mike Gray.

Personnel received a crash notification from an iPhone around 9:48 p.m. in the area of Highway 166 and Pine Canyon, roughly 20 miles east of Santa Maria, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One big rig was transporting fuel, and the other was carrying produce. One truck’s cab was completely detached. The other was on the roadside, also per CHP.

The highway was closed overnight in both directions because of a small fuel leak.

The two drivers sustained minor injuries, Gray said. They were not transported to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Caltrans District 5 said Highway 166 was fully closed near New Cuyama for hours and reopened around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.
