The Plant Fire in the Cuyama Valley was 60% contained as of Sunday evening and all evacuations were lifted in the New Cuyama area, County Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
The day’s firefighting efforts were helped by rainy weather brought in by Tropical Storm Hillary, he added.
The blaze had burned 5,464 acres as of 4:30 p.m. Sunday and more than 600 personnel were assigned to the blaze.
Highway 166 was closed for hours Saturday and early Sunday due to the fire, but reopened Sunday morning by 9 a.m., according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
No structures were damaged or threatened in the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The blaze started in the area of Highway 166 and Perkins Road at 1:20 p.m. Saturday and quickly grew to hundreds of acres, according to fire officials.
Multiple air tankers and water-dropping helicopters were deployed to the firefighting effort on Saturday.
