There is nothing more powerful than coming together, as a community, for a good cause:  simple as the ABCs, easy as 1, 2, 3.  Hope School District has the great fortune of A – a neighborhood, three-school elementary district; B – a supportive Hope School District Educational Foundation (HSDEF); and, C – our three fantastic community schools – Monte Vista, Hope Elementary School, and Vieja Valley.

Over the years, Hope School District, a small, neighborhood district composed of three high-performing elementary schools, has suffered the results of chronic underfunding within the California public education system.

With just under 900 students, 33% of which are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 15% English learners,  all three schools continue to have an average ranking of being in the top 19.5% of California schools by the US News and World Report.

However, in order to provide what our students need academically, the limited budget is not focused on facilities.

The budget priority is maintaining classroom sizes and quality instruction. The campuses and playgrounds have not had the critical funding required for basic maintenance and have suffered as a result.

In addition, COVID severely impacted our children with the closure of schools, play areas, and social isolation.  As a result we clearly understand, more than ever before, how vital social interaction and play time are for children.

The Hope School District Educational Foundation (HDSEF) was founded in 1993 in direct response to the state budget crises and funding restrictions for school programs and is focusing its efforts to correct these deficiencies.

The Foundation is a community-based, volunteer-run, registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to promoting academic excellence, championing innovation, and providing sustained financial support to the Hope School District.

Our 1, 2, 3 – HSD, HSDEF & YOU!

Together with our community, its generous donors, superb leadership of our school district, and local PTA’s extraordinary parental involvement, the HSDEF has made tremendous progress.

Two new, state-of-the-art playground structures at Vieja Valley as well as K yard updating at Monte Vista and Hope Elementary have been completed.

The new playground structures could not have been installed at a better time; the children were just getting back on campus and ready to be together and play! Bring your children and grandchildren for some outside play – the new playground structures are open to the public after school and on the weekends and are busy with children from all over our community playing!

There is still more work to do

The “big toys” on the main play yards of Monte Vista and Hope Elementary are in dire need of being replaced and updated. Our Hope Elementary campus is home to our special day class, inspiring our vision for an accessible playground for students of all levels of physical ability.

Our visions of a community play space and updated play structures extend to all of our district schools. The visions will become a reality with your help!  Please visit www.hsdef.org to donate and pledge your support today. A successful and well-maintained community school adds tremendous value to our neighborhood families.
