A horse rider in the Old Spanish Days Fiesta Historical Parade was injured on Friday after her horse fell and landed on top of her.

A video posted to Instagram showed the horse rearing up during the parade and falling backward onto its rider as the parade was making its way along East Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara.

Other riders immediately rushed to help the woman.

The woman declined a medical evaluation or transport by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, according to Battalion Chief Jon Turner.

However, the woman did go to the hospital for treatment after the incident, said David Bolton, the treasurer and spokesman for Old Spanish Days.

Bolton said first responders at the scene recommended that the woman be taken to the hospital. He did not know the rider’s name or the status of her injuries because of privacy laws.

He said the Old Spanish Days staff are aware of the incident and will discuss it during their wrap-up meetings.

Old Spanish Days began on Aug. 5 and events ran until Aug. 9. The Historical Parade takes place every year along Cabrillo Boulevard and is known as one of the largest equestrian parades in the country. It features horses, floats, dancers and other performers.
