Hospice of Santa Barbara (HSB) has rescheduled Kristin Neff’s presentation The Strength of Self-Compassion to Wednesday, July 20, 6-7 p.m. The virtual event is part of the HSB free illuminate Speaker Series that addresses aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic and offers active solutions to navigate through this new reality.

Registration is required at http://www.hospiceofsb.org/hsbseries.

In her presentation, Neff will share the theory and research on self-compassion, which studies have increasingly shown to be powerfully associated with psychological wellbeing. A short practice will be taught for use when needed in daily life.

Neff is an associate professor of educational psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a pioneer in the field of self-compassion research, conducting the first empirical studies on self-compassion nearly 20 years ago. She has been recognized as one of the most influential researchers in psychology worldwide.

Neffis the author of the bestselling book “Self-Compassion.” Along with her colleague Chris Germer, she developed the Mindful Self-Compassion program, taught internationally, and co-wrote “The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook.” Her newest book is “Fierce Self-Compassion: How Women Can Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim Their Power, and Thrive.”

“We look forward to Kristin Neff’s presentation on self-love and self-compassion,” said David Selberg, CEO of Hospice of Santa Barbara. “This reschedule of the event will be nice for us to learn how we can implement more of it into our daily lives.”

As we all know, people are reeling from this worldwide crisis emotionally, socially, and economically. People have shared a variety of intense feelings they are experiencing during this time, among them: fear, deep sadness, anxiety, grief, uncertainty over the present and what the future holds, vulnerability, despair, anger, and hopelessness. HSB will present a new nationally known speaker every other month.

The illuminate series, which offers a new nationally known speaker every other month, continues through 2022 with Kelly McGonigal in August, Richard Louv in October, and Jack Kornfield and Trudy Goodman in November.

Hospice of Santa Barbara thanks the Santa Barbara Foundation, Robin and Roger Himovitz, and Natalie Orfalea Foundation for sponsoring the event.
