As spring arrives, the Lompoc Beautification & Appearance Commission had announced the popular annual Spring Yard Beautification Contest will be held earlier this year.

Judging is set to take place on Tuesday, May 12. All nominations must be submitted by Monday, May 11.

First, second and third place awards will be chosen for the most colorful and best drought-tolerant front landscapes.

Yards will be judged on visual appeal, maintenance, imagination, water conservation, artistic impact, and other criteria.

Only yards that can be seen while in a vehicle from the street will be considered; and no backyards will be judged. Nominations may include residences, HOA entrances, businesses, and churches.

Winners are expected to be announced the following week.
