The driver of a Mercedes-Benz sedan lost control of the vehicle and crashed on the Riviera in Santa Barbara on Sunday, striking a fire hydrant before reportedly fleeing on a skateboard.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., emergency personnel from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Police Department were dispatched to the incident on the 800 block of Alameda Padre Serra in the foothills above the city. 

A witness told Noozhawk the sedan appeared to have crossed into the opposing lane, then sheared off a fire hydrant before striking a parked car and coming to rest on its side about 30 feet down a private driveway.

The injured driver reportedly climbed out of the wreckage and left the scene on a skateboard.

The incident was being investigated by Santa Barbara police.
