Local police psychologist Cherylynn Lee has been recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) as a recipient of its 2023 40 Under Forty award, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

Lee’s dedication and contributions to the field of police psychology have earned her this well-deserved honor, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Dr. Cherylynn Lee is a remarkable woman and psychologist who is an expert in her field of police psychology,” said Sheriff Bill Brown.

“In addition to overseeing the Sheriff’s Office’s contributions to our collaborative Mental Health Co-Response Program in partnership with the Department of Behavioral Wellness, and our Employee Wellness and Peer Support programs, she is a prolific author, has her own after-hours practice, and fulfills her most important role as a loving wife, and mother to two young children,” he said.

“She constantly strives to help our people and those we serve become stronger and better, and to improve our agency and our profession,” Brown said. “We are very proud of her, and especially pleased that the IACP selected her to receive one of its prestigious 2023 40 Under Forty awards.”

Lee’s work in the field of police psychology and her dedication to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office have left an indelible mark on the community, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Her leadership in the Mental Health Co-Response Program and her commitment to the well-being of her colleagues have been instrumental in fostering a stronger and more resilient law enforcement agency, the Sheriff’s Office said.
 
The IACP 40 Under Forty award is a highly competitive recognition that celebrates the accomplishments and leadership of young professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of law enforcement.

Lee’s passion for improving the lives of law enforcement personnel and the communities they serve has made her a role model and a source of inspiration to her peers, the Sheriff’s Office said.
