Opal Restaurant and Bar
Question: Year the business was established

Answer: Opal Restaurant and Bar was established in the year 2000.
Q: Tell us about your business and what you specialize in.
A: After 26 years in business, opal restaurant and bar remains a locals’ favorite in Santa Barbara. Our Eclectic California Cuisine, award-winning wine list with over 200 selections, and seasonally-updated Creative Craft Cocktail collection ensure there is always something for every taste and every mood. And our highly trained team provides service that is not only professional and efficient but also warm, gracious and genuinely caring.
When it comes to events, we have a highly organized banquet program that allows us to create exceptional experiences for groups of all sizes. We can accommodate 45+ guests in our Second Dining Room, where many of our banquets are held, and 65+ on the other side of the restaurant, the Main Room.
If the Entire Restaurant is booked, we can accommodate 110 total. Either side is reservable for semi-private or private dining, making us an ideal location for wedding rehearsal dinners and moderately-sized wedding receptions.
Finally, we should note that while we are primarily open for dinner only in our capacity as a restaurant, we welcome daytime luncheon events as well.
Q: What sets you apart from others in the wedding industry?
A: We have a banquet program which is simple to navigate yet detail-oriented and flexible, which has allowed us to carefully orchestrate and flawlessly serve over 1000 wedding and other social celebrations over our 26 years of creating exceptional events.
Our event questionnaire allows us to quickly and easily gather the information needed to personalize your event, and helps us to understand your style preferences, and our banquet menu program offers 6 different templates to keep the choices simple, while at the same time allowing flexibility if a guest would prefer different menu choices than those presented on our banquet menus.
Q: What’s your approach to working with couples during the planning process?
A: In all cases, when someone inquires about a wedding, our event coordinator will send an informative email to find out more about them and their preferences, and also include our banquet packet and questionnaire.
When time permits the coordinator may call first before sending the email, or may follow up after sending it, but we prefer to create a personal communication as soon as possible so we may be more fully in tune with you and the vision you have for your event. We also encourage a site visit whenever possible, and can offer a limited menu tasting as well as assisting in pairing wines with your menu choices.
Q: Do you have a favorite wedding moment or memory that stands out?
A: There are many wonderful wedding moments we have experienced here over the years, however just recently a guest who’d had their rehearsal dinner here brought back a group of friends to celebrate a different occasion, because they had all had such a good time at that rehearsal dinner a couple of year ago.
And while this is a specific occasion, it echoes what we have heard many times from our wedding couples when they return for an occasion such as this or for their anniversary: they so often tell us that their guests are still talking about how much they enjoyed their celebration with us here, even in an event that happened 5 years ago or longer. More than any single memory, we feel honored to have heard this compliment time and time again.
Q: What trends or ideas are you excited about in the upcoming wedding season?
A: One trend we find particularly encouraging is the trend towards smaller, more intimate celebrations. While the big extravagant weddings that became the fashion at the turn of the century had their moment and inspired a lot of creativity, they also often took the focus off the couple getting married and put it on the event itself.
We like the idea of weddings that are of the size that allow the couple to actually spend quality time with their friends and family on this most important occasion, and our service style and staff and the size of our event spaces lend themselves particularly well to these kinds of events.
Q: What advice do you have for couples planning their big day?
A: Remember to take time for yourselves and to let this day be about you and celebrating this new chapter in your lives, rather than being about the event itself. To that end, insofar as it is possible, we recommend using professionals on as many of the details as possible.
We have seen weddings become more hectic than need to be when the couple takes on directly too many of the responsibilities of planning. Using wedding professionals is one of the best ways to help you keep the focus on yourselves and what this day is about, and you will be much happier with the flow of your event if you do so.
Q: How far in advance should couples book with you?
A: Although we generally say the more advance notice we have the better (a month or more), our coordinator is skilled enough and our systems efficient enough, that as long as the date is available, we can get an event arranged with a little more than a week’s notice for larger parties and sometimes less for smaller parties.
Q: Where can people learn more or get in touch with you?

A: To learn more about our banquet program for wedding celebrations, please go to the reservation tab on our website.
To receive more information or inquire about booking your event with us, please fill out the contact form in this same same tab on our website as this is generally the most effective way to receive a response.
Alternatively you can always call us directly at 805-966-9676 and leave a message for the Event Coordinator.
With either form of contact, the coordinator will generally get back to you within 24-48 hours.
Q: How do you personalize your services to reflect each couple’s unique style and vision?
A: We personalize our services both through the information we receive from our questionnaire and our phone conversations. Additionally if there is a site visit, that can help us further refine the parameters of the event. We also work with many other wedding vendors, and can arrange florals, balloons, photography, rentals, and expert wedding planning as well.
Q: What inspires your work and keeps you passionate about weddings?
A: If there is one word that sums that up for us, it is joy. Above all, a wedding should be about, not just the joy of the couple who are planning to celebrate this next wonderful chapter in their lives, but also the joy we are given the opportunity to create among their family and friends, when they celebrate with us.
Every wedding is a new and fresh opportunity to create that experience and there is nothing more rewarding and inspiring to see that joy on the faces of a couple’s family and friends as they celebrate with us.
