Jackson Ollenburger scored 31 points and Caleb Cassidy added 24 points and 16 rebounds, as Santa Ynez routed Cate 75-51 at home Tuesday.
“We had no answer for them,” Cate coach Andy Gil said.
The Rams shot well in the beginning of the game but then cooled off, Gil said.
“Extremely proud of our first half,” Gil said. “We battled and competed with some big boys and hung around and still know and believe we can play with anyone.”
Cate was again without leading scorer and rebounder Babacar Pouye, who is recovering from an injured ankle.
“These games without Babacar against big schools/programs is exactly what we need to prepare for moments when Babacar is not in the game and also to develop our young core and get better overall.
“Today we played extremely well in spurts but just need to limit our turnovers and box out.”
Santa Ynez is now 5-3 overall.
Cate, now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Tri-Valley League, plays at Laguna Blanca on Wednesday.
