Jackson Cloud threw a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Santa Ynez to a 6-1 Channel League win over Cabrillo Friday.
Adam Stephens went 4-for-4 with two runs for the Pirates, and Caleb Cassidy hit a two-run double in the fifth to put Santa Ynez on top.
“Jackson was dominant from pitch one,” Pirates coach Warren Dickey said. “He and Mikey Gills were on same page through the game.”
Santa Ynez is 6-1 overall and 1-0 in league. Cabrillo is 2-4 and 0-1.
Santa Ynez plays Bishop Diego Saturday at 11 a.m.
San Marcos Boys Volleyball Advances at Redondo
In an epic pool play match at the Redondo Invitational, the San Marcos boys volleyball team lost in a best-of-three battle to the host Seahawks, 25-18, 28-30, 15-13.
The Royals won their other two pool play matches to advance to the Gold Division on Saturday. They face Huntington Beach .
San Marcos Tennis Tops Portola
San Marcos won its home opener Friday, beating defending CIF-SS Division 2 champion Portola 11-7.
The win included set sweep by No. 1 singles player Masato Perera and No. 1 doubles team of Matthew Chung and Ronin Suzuki and the No. 2 doubles team of Joey and Charlie Friedman.
Carpinteria Baseball Loses at Malibu
Carpinteria traveled to Malibu Friday for a Citrus Coast League opener and came away with a 12-1 loss to the Sharks.
The Warriors’ lone run came in the fourth inning, on a leadoff single by Matt Muñoz followed by an RBI double to left center from Erich Goebel. Goebel finished with two hits.
Carpinteria Tennis Beats Foothill Tech on Total Games
Carpinteria edged the defending CIF-SS champion Foothill Tech Friday, winning by a total games score of 76-71 after tying 9-9 in sets.
Warriors singles player Austin Stone finished 3-0 on the day.
Carpinteria was down 9-5 after the first two sets of the third round and then swept the last four sets with big margins to pull out the game-score win. Those included a 6-1 showing by Stone, a 6-0 win by Ben Persoon and Troy Zimmerman in doubles, a 6-2 win by Ian Thomas and Zaiden Juarez and a 6-2 win by Matthew Endow and Ryan Souza.
Carpinteria is now 3-1.
