The 2023 Santa Barbara Senior Open began on Thursday with Round 1 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.

The breakdown of competitors includes 36 golfers in the Championship Flight, 20 in both the Men’s First and Second Flights and eight in the Women’s Net Flight.

In the Championship Flight, Jason Pridmore was the only competitor to finish under par, finishing two-under after shooting a 68.

Just behind Pridmore, five golfers finished at par to end day one. Warren Leary, Kirk Stark, Doug Williams, Brian Smyth and Dick Engel all shot a 70 to start the open at even-par.

In the Men’s First Flight, John Dimizio and Dominic Namnath each shot a 70 to lead the pack after the first day.

The Men’s Second Flight, meanwhile, saw the best performance of the day as Robert Woods finished three-under, three strokes ahead of the rest of the group.

For the women, Marilyn Freeman shot a 72 to finish at even-par, also three strokes better than the second place Norah Dunbar.

The second and final day of the Senior Open is on Friday with the final grouping teeing off at 10:12 a.m.
