Bishop Diego’s Jenna Hayes hit a three-run home run in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Cardinals momentum toward a 6-1 win over host Carpinteria Tuesday.

Madeline Ferries went the distance for Bishop Diego on the mound, allowing four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five.

Hayes started the scoring in the first inning with a ground-out RBI. Carpinteria evened it up in the second, also with a ground-out RBI, by Alexiana Jaimes.

Bishop Diego saw the ball well, totaling 12 hits, including a 3-for-3 day for Hayes.

Chelsea Hayes, Lily Simolon and Tessa Johansen also managed multiple hits. The Cardinals also played an error-free game in the field, with Hayes sure-handling her team-high six chances.
