Santa Barbara High alums and former beach volleyball partners Jeremy Casebeer and Will Montgomery will reunite for a tournament on their home beach this weekend.
Casebeer and Montgomery will be one of the top men’s teams in Sunday’s California Beach Volleyball Association Premier $1,500 Bath House Open. The women’s tournament will feature AVP players Karissa Cook and Brittany Tiegs.
The competition will be played on courts set up in front of the renovated Cabrillo Bath House.
Casebeer and Montgomery played together in several domestic tournaments and some international events from 2012-2015.
In 2019, Casebeer won his first AVP Tour event, combining with Chaim Schalk to capture the Seattle Open over Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb, one of the U.S. teams playing at the Tokyo Olympics.
Other strong local men’s teams in Sunday’s tournament include Dasmen Stewart/Shane Cervantes; Ric Cervantes/Jonah Seif; Kyle Skinner/Mike Stewart and Matt Jones/Sam Biscaro.
Cook and Tiegs have been playing professionally on the beach for several years. Cook won an AVP Tour event in Austin in 2019 and was a Pan American Games beach volleyball champion that same year.
The top local team is Katie Smith and Sarah McKinny. Also entered are former San Marcos High standouts and Stanford beach volleyball players Taylor Wilson and Ellie Gamberdella.
The tournament finals are expected to start by 4 p.m.
