San Marcos High School Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Jesse Wheeler as the new Head Coach for the Royals’ Girls Beach Volleyball program.

Wheeler brings over two decades of local coaching experience and a proven record of player development across high school, collegiate, and club levels in the Santa Barbara area.

Wheeler boasts an extensive coaching pedigree rooted heavily in the local community. Since 2017, he has served as a head and assistant coach for the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, leading top-tier youth squads.

His high school head coaching career began at Bishop Diego High School (1999–2001), where he earned League Coach of the Year honors in 2001. Wheeler’s background also includes serving as the First Assistant Coach for the Westmont College Women’s Volleyball program (2001–2016) and as a volunteer assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Santa Barbara City College (1998–1999).

Beyond his work on the court, Wheeler brings strong leadership, operational expertise, and project management capabilities to the Royals program.

A longtime resident and professional in the area, he currently works as a Supervising Engineer for the City of Santa Barbara, following more than two decades in construction project management.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Wheeler to lead our Girls Beach Volleyball team,” said the Royals Athletics Director, Frann Wageneck. “His deep coaching roots in Santa Barbara, leadership background, and passion for developing student-athletes make him an exceptional fit to guide our program forward.”

Wheeler will immediately begin preparing the Royals for their Spring beach volleyball campaign.
