JoAnn Christine Knight

JoAnn Christine Knight, 77, of Goleta passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

JoAnn was born on July 2, 1948 to Ann and Tony Barajas, in Greeley, Colorado. She was the oldest of six children, a role she carried with natural care and responsibility.

She is survived by her siblings Diane Moraga and Gabe Barajas. She was preceded in death by her siblings Steve Barajas, Antoinette Monet (Evie), and Andy Barajas.

She devoted her professional life to serving as a special education para educator, a role that perfectly reflected her patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child.

JoAnn had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen, valued and encouraged. Her students and colleagues alike were blessed by her dedication and generous spirit.

Beyond her career, JoAnn found great joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved tending to her garden, nurturing both flowers and friendships with equal care.

Her faith was central to her life, and she was deeply involved in her church community.

One of her most cherished acts of service was preparing and sending shoebox gifts to children in other countries, spreading kindness and hope far beyond her own community. She enjoyed crafting each box with her dear friends from church.

JoAnn also had a passion for sewing. She altered just about anything anyone ever gave her, including sports uniforms, dresses for homecoming dances, and some very detailed wedding dresses.

Above all, JoAnn treasured her family. She was a loving mother to her sons Daniel Feldhaus (Kim), Jeff Feldhaus (Layla), David Feldhaus (Sarah); and daughter, Alisa Yamamoto (Ryan).

Nothing brought her greater happiness than being “Nana” to Josh, Nate, Sydney, Kellen, Reese and Shelby. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she celebrated each of their accomplishments, big and small, with pride and joy. She was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of another grandson due in May, a blessing she spoke of often with joy and anticipation.

JoAnn will be remembered for her warm smile, her servant’s heart, her steadfast faith, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and generosity that will continue to bloom in the lives of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Santa Barbara Community Church, 1002 Cieneguitas Road, Santa Barbara.
