Entertainers and animal advocates John Corbett and Bo Derek will welcome guests to Tails of Hope, a countywide fundraiser for Santa Barbara County Animal Services, 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at Elings Park.

Attendees will be treated to wines from La Lieff Winery, beer from Draughtsman Ale, and nibbles from Pure Joy Catering and Alessia Patisserie.

In addition to a program hosted by Corbett (“Sex & the City,” “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”) and Derek (“10,” “Tommy Boy”), the event will feature a performance by the Bubble Guy, live acoustic music, shelter dogs to meet, silent auction shopping, and nonprofit partner booths.

“As long-time animal lovers, Bo and I are delighted to help bring attention to Santa Barbara County Animal Services and the critical work that they do helping thousands of animals in our county each year,” Corbett said.

“Not only have we adopted from their shelters, but we support their work helping every kind of animal, from rabbits to horses and more, as well as pet owners who might be struggling to care for their animals,” he said. “We are excited to celebrate their work and look forward to sharing Tails (and tales!) of Hope on Sept. 21.”

Santa Barbara County Animal Services (SBCAS) is the largest animal welfare agency in the region, taking in more than 6,000 animals each year: dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fowl, reptiles, even the occasional goat.

SBCAS staff responds to cruelty complaints of all kinds, from horses to roosters to family pets; assists with animals in natural disasters; responds to wildlife in distress; and hosts pet pantries to assist struggling pet owners.

SBCAS said it depends heavily on nonprofit partner support to meet the care and needs of its many animals. SBCAS is part of the Santa Barbara County Health Department, which turns 100 years old this year.

All proceeds from Tails of Hope will go to the Santa Barbara County Animal Care Foundation (SBCACF), a 501c3 which partners with SBCAS to raise funds for veterinary care, outreach programs, capital improvements, etc.
