Our beloved mother Josephine (Jo) Daly passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025 at the age of 95 in her home at Atterdag Village in Solvang, surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 8, 1930 in Santa Barbara to Frank and Kathryn Jordano.
Jo’s father, Frank, was one of the original four brothers who started the Jordano’s grocery store chain in 1915, a legacy of which Jo and the entire Jordano and Daly families are very proud.
In her early years, Jo/Mom worked in the family business doing various jobs. She became well acquainted with what is required to be successful in a large, hard-working Italian family.
In her early 20s, Mom became a dental assistant, working for Dr. Bill Young. It was in this position that she met her future husband Terence (Terry) Daly. Mom married Terry on June 13, 1953, at the Santa Barbara Mission.
Mom and Dad shared nearly 70 years of love and companionship before Dad’s passing in 2022. They enjoyed traveling the world, covering five of the seven continents, including several visits to Mom’s family in northern Italy and Dad’s family in Ireland.

Mom and Dad were very proud of their “roots,” and shared their many memories of their visits with their whole family.
Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, who was very active in all aspects of her children’s lives.
She was also a very dedicated volunteer for Santa Barbara charities such as the Assistance League and Hillside House.
Upon Mom and Dad’s move to the Santa Ynez Valley, Mom volunteered for Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, Santa Ines Mission, and Solvang Lutheran Home/Atterdag Village, where Mom and Dad resided for the last eight years of their lives.
Mom always enjoyed being very creative, turning this desire into the knitting of scarves and hats for Santa Ynez Valley women who were going through chemotherapy treatment. Mom always added her own personal touch with each gift of one pearl bead.
Mom was a devout Catholic, devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Grammy), and great-grandmother.
She is survived by daughters Erin Marra of Issaquah Washington, and Kathi Hames (Bill) of Buellton; sons Tim Daly (Randy) of Vancouver, Washington, and Mike Daly (Cindy) of Ventura.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Katie Wright (Aaron) of Buellton, Will Hames (Katie Rose) of Gaviota, Caitlin Kurz (Spencer) of North Bend, Washington, Alyssa Daly (Kenny) and Brendan Daly (Michelle) of Ventura; and five great-grandchildren (with another on the way) of Buellton and Gaviota.
Mom is preceded in death by her older brother Frank Jordano, Jr.; and she is survived by her younger brother Peter of Santa Barbara.
A mass will be held for Mom will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at Mission Santa Ines. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for donations to be sent to the following organizations:
