Retired Santa Barbara County District Joyce E. Dudley has been appointed to the state Peace Officer Standards Accountability Advisory Board by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The appointment was announced this week by Newsom’s office.

The 9-member Peace Officer Standards Accountability Advisory Board advises the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, and reviews serious misconduct cases involving peace officers in California.

The position does not require Senate confirmation, and members receive per-diem compensation of $350 per day for attending meetings.

Dudley, a Democrat, served as district attorney from 2010 until 2022, and was a deputy district attorney from 1990 to 201o.

She previously served as director of child development programs at the county Community Action Commission, and child development director at the Children’s Home Society of California.

Dudley earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCSB, a master’s degree in early childhood education from Antioch University, a master’s degree in education from UCSB, and a juris doctor degree from the Santa Barbara College of Law.

“I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with Joyce Dudley,” said District Attorney John T. Savrnoch. “This appointment shows that even in retirement, Joyce remains dedicated to public safety, to the women and men of law enforcement, and to ensuring that California has the best trained and most ethical peace officers in the country.”
