The sun came out just in time for Whiskey x Leather’s 10-year celebration in Montecito.
When owners Ariel Hujar and Zee Chew first hung their sign a decade ago, no one quite knew what to expect from the stylish new shop at 1101-A Coast Village Road, at the intersection with the western end of Coast Village Circle.
I’ll admit, I was one of the curious onlookers guessing what might unfold in that charming space.
On opening day back in 2015, the pair welcomed men and women, moms and daughters, and anyone with a love for effortless California style.
With strong roots in local retail, Chew and Hujar took the leap into entrepreneurship — and 10 years later, they’re still thriving, now with a second store in San Diego.
Their vision was simple but inspired: to blend modern sophistication with the relaxed, sun-soaked spirit of California living.
What began as one boutique has grown into a lifestyle brand known for its approachable edge, trend-aware style, and curated selection of accessories and apparel from established and emerging designers alike.
“The true heart of Whiskey x Leather has always been its people,” Hujar said.
She and Chew have built a loyal community through authentic relationships, personal styling and a welcoming, down-to-earth experience.

From pop-ups and designer trunk shows to supporting local artisans, their stores have become gathering places for creativity, connection and fun.
The Nov. 8 anniversary celebration reflected that spirit perfectly, with drinks served from a Winnebago, appetizers, a photo booth, giveaways and in-store gifts — all in gratitude to the customers who made it possible.
But it wasn’t just about the store. Chew and Hujar held a raffle to raise funds for Isla Fay, a local toddler recently diagnosed with and undergoing treatment for T-cell leukemia at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Even if you missed the raffle, you can click here to make an online donation. In less than two weeks, a GoFundMe account has raised more than $141,000 for Isla.
Noozhawk was the first local publication to welcome Whiskey x Leather and these young entrepreneurs 10 years ago. Here’s to Hujar, Chew and 10 more years of California cool.
