Santa Barbara High girls water polo pulled out a dramatic 14-13 win in sudden-death triple overtime over Edison in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 2 playoffs on Tuesday in Huntington Beach.

The Dons will now roll out the welcome mats for Temple City in the Quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m.

Jules Horton stepped up when it mattered most, winning the sprint in sudden death before earning and burying a penalty shot to give Santa Barbara High the win.

Horton shined on both ends of the pool from start to finish with five goals, five assists, six exclusions earned and four steals.

The Dons found themselves trailing 10-8 early in the fourth quarter, but they responded with four straight goals to take the lead with two minutes to go. Edison tied it back up one minute later to send the game to overtime.

Santa Barbara scored the first two goals of overtime before Edison netted back-to-back goals, eventually setting up Horton’s dramatics.

Violette Bailey also scored five goals for the Dons to go along with three exclusions earned, while Rose Nelley scored twice and played well on the defensive end.
