Julie Ann Vanderhoof was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Frederick and Loretta Baumgartner on June 4, 1931. She peacefully passed away on Sept. 29, 2026 in Goleta.
Julie was the middle child with an older brother Frederick, and a younger sister Carol.
She spent her childhood and young adult years in Oshkosh. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dwain Erle Vanderhoof.Â
They were married on June 23, 1954, and enjoyed their honeymoon by camping in the north woods of Wisconsin.
They welcomed their first daughter Kathy while Dwain was in the Army, stationed in New Jersey.
They then relocated to Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. It was there that twin sons Jon and Jeff were born, followed by daughter Ruth Ellen.
In 1972 the family relocated to Goleta. Julie enjoyed an active lifestyle in California, including camping, taking walks on the beach and hiking in the mountains. She was also a passenger on the back seat of Dwain’s various motorcycles to the tune of 100,000 miles.
Both Julie and Dwain were also very active in their church. In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally.
They also did home exchanges in the U.S. and abroad; they would stay in someone else’s house while the other homeowners would stay in their house. Julie was well-travelled and enjoyed time in Japan as well as in Europe.
Julie is survived by sons Jon (Elen) Vanderhoof, Jeff (Hiroko) Vanderhoof; son-in-law Richard Perez; grandchildren Jeffrey Vanderhoof, Anne Smith, Amy Perez, and Lisa Vanderhoof; and great-grandchildren Arthur Smith and Adalynn Smith.
She was pre-deceased by husband Dwain; daughters Kathy Vanderhoof and Ruth Ellen Perez; and grandson-in-law Sam Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14Â at Christ Lutheran Church, 6595 Covington Way, Goleta.
