Santa Barbara County is blessed with a diversity of vital nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the health, well-being, growth, civic leadership and compassion of our community.

Charitable giving and philanthropy are part of our identity, which is why Noozhawk is proud to support the nonprofit community through sponsoring local community organizations and events.

To showcase our support as a sponsor of the event, Junior League of Santa Barbara’s Annual Rummage Sale, Noozhawk spoke with Susana Estrada-Abundis, Rummage Chair at Junior League of Santa Barbara to learn more about their event.

Junior League of Santa Barbara

Question: What is the name and date of your event?

Answer: 87th Annual Junior League Rummage Sale, Saturday, March 22 from 8am – 1pm and with a special pre-sale event Friday, March 21 from 6pm – 9pm.

Q: What is the mission, goal, and/or theme of this occasion?

A: First established in 1934, the community-based sale is one of Santa Barbara’s longest standing charity events. It benefits our mission and provides low-cost, new and gently used merchandise to the community at affordable prices. Admission to the sale on Saturday is free and open to the general public, with a special pre-sale paid event Friday.

This is one of Santa Barbara’s largest indoor garage sale boasting thousands of new, almost-new and gently-used items for sale including: baby items, clothing for all, art, housewares, appliances, kitchen and dining wares, and more!

Q: Have you held this event before?

A: Yes, since 1934, it is the 87th time. This is the third year it will be at the Carrillo Rec Center, in previous years it has been at Earl Warren Showgrounds.

Q: Tell us some more details about your celebration?

A: The Junior League of Santa Barbara (JLSB) is celebrating it’s centennial year and is excited to host its 87th Rummage Sale at Carrillo Recreation Center on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a special pre-sale shopping event on Friday, March 21, 2024.

The annual event, a bargain hunter’s dream, will be from 6pm to 9pm on Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday. Tickets for Friday’s pre-sale are $30 each or a bundle of 5 tickets for $120 and are available in advance online.

This event is for the community and we are so excited to be able to provide amazing items at low cost bringing the community together, helping a worthy cause. There will be members of the Junior League in attendance, helping customers purchase items and letting people know about the Junior League and what we do in the community.

Q: How do people get involved with your event? (volunteer, attend, etc.) – If your event includes ticket sales, please note the price and include a link to purchase tickets.

A: We will begin organizing for the sale the morning of Thursday March 20th and would love to have any and all people who would like to come and volunteer their time to help.

Friday, March 21st 6pm – 9pm is the pre-sale event $30 per ticket, or $120 for a five tickets, you can purchase Pre-Sale Tickets here. Saturday, March 22nd from 8am – 1pm the sale is free!

Q: Is this a fundraising affair? If so, how will the funds raised help your organization?

A: All items have been donated, and all people involved are volunteers. The funds raised support the JLSB’s work in our community, including training its members to be effective community leaders while partnering with other non-profits aligned with the JLSB’s mission and focus area in order to further the League’s impact.

This includes the League’s current signature project, S.A.F.E. House Santa Barbara™, a six-bed residential shelter for girls ages 12-18, and Living Arrows, two six-bed residential shelters, one for boys and one for girls for ages 18-21.

These homes are located in Santa Barbara County for survivors of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. The funds will also assist traffickSTOP, a community awareness campaign aimed at helping local residents know the facts; know the signs; and know what to do if a case of trafficking is suspected.

Q: Who is sponsoring your event, and why is their support important?

A: In recognition of 100 years of community service, JLSB is raising $100,000 this year to support programs, training, resources and projects done within the community. This is ten times more than JLSB has ever raised.

These funds will be distributed through CAF (Community Assistance Fund) grants to local nonprofits. JLSB is raising these funds through centennial sponsorships. Depending on the funding commitment, organizations who become our centennial sponsors get special recognition and event access.

Contact president@jlsantabarbara.org if you are interested in becoming a centennial sponsor. Our centennial sponsors currently include Kielle Campbell Lindsey; Joan and Jim Lindsey; Type A Creative; American Riviera Bank; Fidelity; Laguna Capital; World Advisors; Brownstein Hyatt, Farber, Schreck, LLP; Arlington Financial; RG Photography.

Q: Do you work with an Event Planner? If not, who are the key people who make it all happen?

A: There is a wonderful Spring Fundraiser: Rummage Committee. We have our Rummage Chair, Susie Estrada-Abundis and committee members Isela Trujillo and Libby Paternoster. Along with the committee our President Jenni-Elise Ramirez, President Elect Jessica Hawley and all our volunteer members that have been assisting to ensure a successful community event.

Q: Does your organization have any other upcoming events this year?

A: We are currently in our Centennial year, celebrating 100 years of service to the Santa Barbara community. To close this celebratory year, we will award Community Assistance Funds to local organizations who fulfill the mission and vision of the Junior League and align with our focus area.
