
Karen Ann (McCafferty) Cornick passed away on July 2, 2026 from complications of colon cancer. She was 69 years old.
Karen was raised in Santa Barbara. She loved science classes at Santa Barbara High School and excelled in competitive swimming, especially freestyle and backstroke.
Following high school, she attended college at San Diego State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing with a minor in public health.
After earning her MSN in 1985, she went on to serve in the United States Air Force, retiring where she retired in 2016, after 20 years of service and held the rank of major.
Karen was known to have spent her adult life in service and devotion to God, family and friends.
Karen and Richard Dale Cornick were married in 1999 in Hawaii and enjoyed 27 years together. They resided in Mountain Home, Idaho, during their well-deserved retirement, spending time gardening, raising family pets, and enjoying hobbies such as crafting and cooking, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband Richard Dale Cornick of Mountain Home; uncle Don Lais (Paula) of Borrego Springs, California; siblings John Wesley McCafferty of Ventura, California, Susan Harrison (Sean) of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Lisa Alvarez (Mario); and Lisa’s two children Sharin Ann Poynter (four children) and Joseph Robert Boyd (three children).
Karen was preceded in death by her parents John McCafferty (1935-2024) and Andrea Chase (1938-2003).
