Karl Miller, 74, of Rancho Mirage, California, peacefully passed away with his family by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Karl was born Feb. 25, 1951, and raised in Pocatello, Idaho, by his parents John and Lorraine Miller.
Karl graduated from Idaho State University in 1973 with a degree in finance. That same year Karl began his career in banking when he joined Bank of America and moved to Los Angeles.
Following a promotion and transfer to Santa Barbara, Karl met Kathy MacIsaac, a local girl and the love of his life. They met in 1977 on a blind date, were engaged in two weeks, married in 90 days and never looked back.
In furtherance of his career, Karl and Kathy lived in several SoCal cities; spent almost 20 years in Seattle, Washington and surrounding communities, where he earned an MBA from the University of Puget Sound; and eventually landed in Stockton, California, where they spent 25 years before finally retiring in the desert.
Along the way, they welcomed three amazing children who provided six grandchildren – the joy of their lives.
Karl took up golf and embraced it with real love, for both the game and the friends he shared it with.
His career in banking was always a driving force in his life, and many colleagues from Band of America, Rainier, Key, and Union Safe Deposit Banks became lifelong friends.
Karl’s 10-plus-year battle with Alzheimer’s was a struggle, but he and Kathy were truly blessed with the love and support of their children.
Karl is survived by Kathy, his wife of 48 years; his children and their spouses Andrew (Shannon), Adam (Devon) and Katie. Karl will be missed by his brother Gaylan; brothers-in-law Brian, Bob and Alan; sisters-in-law Peggy, Cheryl and Anna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Karl’s wonderful sense of humor, blond baby-hair, sweet smile and kindness live on through his grandchildren River, Sadie, Josephine, Logan, Molly and Charlie.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at Hope Lutheran Church, 45900 Portola Ave., Palm Desert, California, with a Celebration of Life to follow. All of Karl’s family and friends are welcome.
Please RSVP to Kathy at 209-607-0600.
