The Vikings of Solvang has announced a transition in leadership, with Kim Jensen stepping into the role of chief, following the tenure of Joe Tyson.

“Jensen brings both strong community ties and local business leadership to his new role,” the Vikings said. “He is the proprietor of Ingeborg’s Fine Danish Chocolates and a resident of Solvang, where his commitment to the community is deeply rooted.”

The Vikings of Solvang is known for its philanthropy, providing medically related aid, supporting families during times of hardship, and organizing the annual Special Needs Children’s Christmas Party.

The group raises funds through private donations, as well as community fundraising events, including an annual golf tournament at Alisal Ranch Course and the Viking Classic Car Show in downtown Solvang.

As the new Vikings chief, Jensen said he is focused on expanding participation in one of the organization’s most impactful initiatives, the Viking Blood Drive.

His said his goal is to increase donations, recognizing the key role the drive plays in supporting hospitals and saving lives throughout Santa Barbara County.

“By increasing participation in the Viking Blood Drive, we can make an even greater impact across Santa Barbara County,” Jensen said. “The Vikings have always stepped up when our community needs us, and giving blood is one of the most immediate and meaningful ways we can help.”

During his tenure, Tyson helped guide the organization’s continued commitment to service across Santa Barbara County, reinforcing the Vikings’ role as a hands-on, community-first organization dedicated to helping those in need, according to the nonprofit.

A retired Air Force non-commissioned officer and Raytheon professional, Tyson is also a Santa Barbara Elk, PHP Board member, and longtime Buellton resident.

“It has truly been a pleasure and an honor to serve as chief,” Tyson said. “The Vikings of Solvang are built on generosity, camaraderie, and showing up for our community.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited to see the organization continue to grow under chief Kim’s leadership.”
