(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont’s Keelyn Kistner has been honored as the Golden State Athletic Conference Setter of the Week. The freshman from Queen Creek, Arizona played in three matches last week, tallying 65 assists (6.5 assists per set) while playing in a 6-2 (two setter) offensive scheme.

Kistner also added 27 digs and three service aces to the Warriors’ cause.

Westmont (14-2) swept Westcliff last Tuesday with Kistner adding 24 assists and seven digs. On Friday, Westmont returned to GSAC action and defeated Life Pacific in four sets. Kistner contributed 18 assists and 13 digs to that victory. On Saturday, Kistner tallied 23 assists and seven digs as the Warriors swept Hope International in three sets.

“Technically, Keelyn is one of the top setters that has played in our program,” said Westmont head coach Ruth McGolpin. “Her performance last week was multi-faceted and included some defense.

“Keelyn is a learner of the game and very coachable. She is willing to listen to what her coaches have to say and she is quick to make adjustments, even within a match. She is going to continue to have an upswing.”

Kistner has played in all 57 sets for the Warriors this season and is averaging 5.67 assists per set.

With a 5-0 conference record, #17 Westmont is tied atop the GSAC standings with Vanguard (14-2). Friday night, the two teams will face off across the net from each other in Costa Mesa in a showdown for sole possession of first place.
