Three people were displaced after a kitchen fire Tuesday night in northeast Santa Maria.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., Santa Maria Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the incident in the 1200 block of East Sunset Avenue, Fire Chief Brad Dandridge said.

The occupants safely evacuated from the residence, but were not able to return Tuesday. Red Cross representatives were called to assist the residents, the chief said.

No firefighters or civilians were injured in incident.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday night.

Officers from the Santa Maria Police Department provided traffic control in the area while an American Medical Response crew remained nearby in case of a medical emergency.
