Demonstrating its commitment to youth education, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Maria awarded $42,470 in scholarships to 31 local high school and two college students during its annual Scholarship Dinner, May 15.

The scholarship recipients, selected from a competitive pool of applicants across the Santa Maria Valley, were recognized for their academic achievements, community service, and leadership qualities.

Each student received their award certificate during the ceremony attended by Kiwanis members, scholarship donors, and family members.

“These young people represent the best of our community,” said Anna Rubcic, chair of the Kiwanis scholarship committee. “Their dedication to academics while maintaining extensive community service records is truly inspiring.

“We’re honored to help support the next steps in their educational journeys.”

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Maria offers various scholarship opportunities, including awards for students pursuing fine arts, STEM fields, trade certifications, and culinary arts.

Special scholarships are also available for students with disabilities and those who have demonstrated exceptional community service through the Key Club program.

The scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 each, are made possible through community fundraisers, private donations, and the generosity of Kiwanis members.

Notable contributors include McInerney Family, Moats Family, Golden State Water, and Julie Posada of Sweet & Succulent Signature Treats, who provided desserts for the scholarship dinner.

Applications for the 2026 scholarship program will be available in January, with submission deadlines in late February.
